How big is the Hab in The Martian?
~12m
About 12 m across as drawn here. The book doesn't give a size, so that's the map's guess.
From the bookThe map's guessReal world
The Hab is an inflatable dome for a six-person, 31-sol mission. On this map it is about 12 m across. The book describes it but doesn't give its size, so the Hab, the rover and the MAV are all drawn roughly to the description, with guessed sizes.
What the book does give is the farm: 126 m² of Martian soil spread over the Hab's floor and the beds of two rovers, fertilised with the crew's waste. That's the floor of a decent family house.
The canvas doesn't last. Around sol 119 it tears at Airlock 1, the Hab decompresses, and the cold kills every potato.
