A pilgrim to Rome
Reynard the Fox, by Willem · The same day
When Bruun and Isengrim storm in, raging at Reynaert, the king has them thrown in chains. Reynaert can't take the king to the treasure, he says: he has to go on a pilgrimage to Rome to be forgiven. For the trip he gets a bag cut from Bruun's back and shoes from the skin of Isengrim's and his wife's paws. Belijn the ram, the king's chaplain, blesses him. Off he goes, looking very holy.
